Hello, friends and fellow fiends! It’s that time of year again, when ghouls and goblins hold sway, squat orange squash are ritualistically sacrificed to the Autumn Gods, and the night air crackles with nightmarish possibilities….

It’s SCARE-A-THON 2021

As many of you know, for the past 11 years I have dedicated my October viewing energies to various organizations deserving of some TLC (Terror Lovin’ Care). Thanks to generous and like-minded souls, we have raised tens of thousands of dollars for over a dozen different causes. This year’s recipient:

Albany Park Theater Project’s teen ensemble and adult artistic team collaborate to devise world-class original theater that amplifies and illuminates the voices and experiences of our immigrant and first-generation community. Their creative process prepares and propels teens to lead civically engaged and choice-filled lives.

Since 1997, APTP has created transformative experiences with and for thousands of teens, primarily young people of color from immigrant and working-class families. By telling the stories of people whose voices are not always heard in ways that respect and honor them, these performances foster empathy, humanize challenging social issues, encourage new ways of seeing the world, and inspire action.

Throughout the month of October, I will watch (and review) 31 fright flicks, one for each day of the scariest month of the year, with donors pledging a designated amount for every movie watched. For example:

$.25 x 31 movies would equal a total donation of $7.75
$.50 x 31 = $15.50
$1 x 31 = $31
$2 x 31 = $62
$3 x 31 = $93

And so on.

PLUS: This year, in the diverse spirit that APTP exemplifies, I have added the bonus challenge that each of the 31 films showcased will hail from a different country, making for the widest array of representation in Scare-a-Thon history!

Reviews are posted daily here at HORROR 101 with Dr. AC (click HERE for recaps of previous Scare-A-Thons), so please stop by and see how we’re doing (and get a few recommendations for your own fright nights)!

I will also be appearing every Friday in October at 7:30pm CST with Ian Simmons and an array of special guests on the KICKING THE SEAT podcast on YouTube, discussing highlighted selections throughout the month.

Whew! That’s it! If you’re interested in participating, simply email me at drach101@gmail.com with your pledge amount and I’ll add you to the roster! Also, please, please, please share the link (and your own good juju) throughout your social circles, online and off. The more helping hands the better.…

Thanks for your support! Have a happy and safe Halloween season!

Caring through Scaring,
