Dark, The (1993) (1st viewing) d. Pryce, Craig (Canada) 87 min.

Light hearted and fun little creature feature starring Stephen McHattie (with his name above the title, no less) as a badass scientist hunting down a monster whose genealogical roots tie back to the Jurassic period and is now making its home in the local graveyard, dining on the recently deceased. Neve Campbell and Jaimz Woolvett (Unforgiven’s “Schofield Kid”) share screen time with baddie Brion James, the latter intent on destroying the creature while McHattie attempts to capture it alive.

Dark, The (1979) (1st viewing) d. Cardos, John "Bud" (USA) 92 min.

A humanoid extraterrestrial lurks around L.A., ripping off victims’ heads and/or exploding them with his zappy laser eyes. Just as silly as it sounds, but it’s entertaining watching the seasoned cast (William Devane, Cathy Lee Crosby, Richard Jaeckel) navigate the madness. The blow ‘em up finale is pretty darn hilarious, with swarms of policemen laying down fire on the monster who in turn is zapping for all it’s worth.

Curious Dr. Humpp, The (1969) (1st viewing) d. Vieyra, Emilio (Argentina) 87 min.

Oh, man. Don’t watch this one with the kiddies, unless you want to be having that “birds n’ bees” chat about five minutes in as it’s pretty much wall to wall sex sex sex from start to finish. You see, the titular doc has a bit of a skin problem that can only be kept in check by drawing off the secretions of active sexual participants, so he kidnaps them, then feeds them aphrodisiacs to keep them pumping. Did I mention he takes his orders from a talking brain in a jar? For those who’ve seen some bare bods in their day, things go on a little long (pardon the expression), but it’s loopy enough overall to keep one’s attention throughout.
