Howdy, folks!
I’m not even going to waste your time with the usual apology/justification this time around for not having seen all the latest and greatest, brightest and bloodiest objects that 2018 had to offer. That said, I’m pretty happy with the amount of newer flicks that passed my peepers, as well as the revisits I was fortunate enough to engage in either for review or recreational purposes.
To compensate, this year I’ve extended my field of view for recent fright films to include the past two (2) years since I was playing quite a bit of catch-up during the early months of 2018. (Hey, as I’ve said many a time before – we’re all on our own path. What’s important is that we keep walking it.)
Please note: All the films listed below were encountered by your humble scribe for the first time over the past 12 months and, to acknowledge as many as possible, I've broken them down into various categories in alphabetical order, with my top picks denoted with an asterisk. (*)
However, it should be noted I also had a grand time revisiting and rediscovering features from the past that for one reason or another came back around my way again. Films that I had only seen once before, including Ginger Snaps 2, Goke: Body Snatcher from Hell, Lady Terminator, Alien Prey, The Horror of Party Beach, The Mothman Prophecies, Coherence, The Final Destination series, and many, many more were welcomed back like the old friends that they are.
In the same way that you can’t step in the same river twice, you can never watch a movie the same way again. The films don’t change, but we do, and that’s half the fun. So, keep looking forward, but don’t forget to look back from time to time to see where you’ve been.
