A haunting and inexplicable series of deaths shatter a small town’s tranquil day-to-day existence, leaving taciturn police officer Agustina Lecouna saddled with the unenviable task of resolving a mystery that points an accusatory finger skyward. In realizing his own script, Calvete collaborates with cinematographer Dario Sabina to create a world leached of color and life, its inhabitants pale imitations of their healthy selves; this is a town nearly drained, where people mimic the motions and habits of relationships without ever connecting.
A young child gifted with second sight and his abusive guardian enter the town, adding further intrigue to the bizarre events and fueling a fire that threatens to consume them all. A rich story filled with bold ideas and bolder ambiguities, pitting the fervor of spiritual faith against the rigid dogma of the Church, a supernatural detective story with a singularly unusual and original antagonist. Calvete has created a challenging and startling tale of vengeance, one exquisitely textured and deserving of multiple viewings.
