SPOORLOOS (aka THE VANISHING) (1988) Movie Review
Writer/director George Sluizer's astonishing adaptation of Tim Krabbe's novel The Golden Egg continues to enchant audiences 35 years after it first hit theater screens around the world, spinning a stunning yarn of obsession and the disquieting presence of what we call "evil."
During a vacation in France, a young Dutch tourist Saskia disappears from a rest stop gas station. What happened to her? This is the question that haunts her boyfriend Rex for the next three years as he searches desperately for clues. Eventually, he encounters Raymond, who claims to have the answers to the mystery... but at what cost?
Cati Glidewell, aka The Blonde in Front joins AC as they discuss this powerful and unconventional thriller, as well as the 1993 Hollywood redux (also directed by Sluizer) which followed five years later starring Jeff Bridges, Keifer Sutherland, Nancy Travis, and a brink-of-stardom Sandra Bullock.
