SCARE-A-THON 2022: WEEK 3!!!

It's not my birthday, so it's not a birthday suit...

Heading into the back half of October with high spirits and ghoulish gusto!

But first, HUGE thanks and gratitude to everyone who has contributed already to our Scare-a-Thon fundraising efforts, as we just blasted through the $5,000 mark, and I see no reason for us to stop now! All month long we are raising funds and awareness for the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project, a non-partisan, nonprofit organization assisting women who are financially unable to pay for safe, legal abortions or emergency contraceptives. WRRAP works directly with pre-qualified, reputable reproductive health clinics across the U.S. on behalf of the person in need.

Now in its third week, the new H101 with Dr. AC YouTube channel is loading its larders with oodles of reviews and conversations with fellow film fans. Click on the many links below to be part of the fun, Share the Scare, and let your voices be heard!

As before, hats off to everyone who has lent their support thus far, in whatever means you're able. If money is tight this year and a monetary donation is not possible, please consider spreading the word via your particular networks and circles. Every little bit helps, every little bit is appreciated, every little bit makes a difference.

Here's the donation link:

And here are the flicks!

16.
Titane (2021)
d. Julia DuCournau (France/Belgium) (108 min)

A film with Big Ideas deserves Big Brains to chat about it! AC and special guests author Vanessa Morgan (Evil Seeds, When Animals Attack), filmmaker Gert Verbeeck (At the Pond), and actress Michelle Courvais (The Landlord) stream in from three different countries to discuss Julia Ducournau's genre-defying, Palme d'Or-winning assault on the senses and sensibilities, TITANE. From serial killers to body horror to automotive mash-ups you won't believe even after you see them, this is one of the most challenging and celebrated offerings of the Scare-a-Thon, so pull up a chair and stay awhile!

Anything for Jackson (2020)
d. Justin G. Dyck (Canada) (97 min)

Director John Pata (Dead Weight, Black Mold) checks into the Doc's office to celebrate another awesome entry in the Canadian Horror Annals, 2020's terrific droll and terrifying Satanic thriller Anything for Jackson from director Justin G. Dyck and screenwriter Keith Cooper.

18.
Bloodthirsty (2020)
d. Amelia Moses (Canada) (84 min)

Author and podcast host S.A. Bradley (Hellbent for Horror) returns to the Doc's office to parse the musical/monster mash-up that is Canadian director Amelia Moses' BLOODTHIRSTY, a character study of a young singer/songwriter, Grey (Lauren Beatty), who agrees to work with record producer Vaughn (Greg Bryk) despite his dark and mysterious past. Co-written by the mother/daughter team of producer Wendy Hill-Tout and songwriter Lowell, we examine the price of success... and the bloody ties that bind.

19.
The Black Phone (2022)
d. Scott Derrickson (USA) (103 min)

Professional chef and food enthusiast Adam Witt (aka Omnivorous Adam) takes the drive-thru lane (didn't know we had one of those, did you?) to chat about Scott Derrickson's latest effort, THE BLACK PHONE, starring Ethan Hawke and a cast of (mostly) talented young actors in this adaption of Joe Hill's novel. (Whether it's too much of a "book on film" is debatable and, well, we debate it!) Additionally, Adam talks about The List of October flicks he's grinding through, as well as the best seasonal munchies to have on hand during the spooky times.

THE BLACK PHONE (2022) MOVIE REVIEW

20.
Halloween Kills (2021)
d. David Gordon Green (USA) (105 min)

Podcaster (Discover the Horror) and author Aaron AuBuchon settles in to discuss one of the more controversial and divisive offerings of last year, HALLOWEEN KILLS. As with Halloween (2018), we have director/co-writer David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride resurrecting one of the screen's most legendary boogeymen and sending him out into the streets of Haddonfield to do his thing. Will Evil Die Tonight? (Unlikely, since we already knew there was another installment in the works, but that's beside the point.)

HALLOWEEN KILLS (2021) MOVIE REVIEW

21.
Gaia (2021)
d. Jaco Bouwer (South Africa) (96 min)

Midwestern superfan Ken Johnson traverses the internet jungle to join AC to discuss the South African eco-horror, GAIA! When two rangers venture deep into the forest to record breathtaking drone footage of the flora and fauna, they encounter a father and son who have abandoned civilization in favor of life in the wild. But this worship of Nature comes at a price, and the lesson that the Earth will always take back what is Hers is made abundantly clear by director Jaco Bouwer, screenwriter Tertius Kapp, and cinematographer Jorrie van der Walt, all of whom served as producers on what was clearly a passion project.

GAIA (2021) MOVIE REVIEW

22.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
d. Adam Wingard (USA) (113 min)

Author Vanessa Morgan (When Animals Attack, Evil Seeds) rejoins AC for a lively chat about the Legendary Monsterverse and its latest chapter, GODZILLA VS. KONG, directed by Adam Wingard. As the title indicates, this one matches the King of the Monsters against the Kong of the Monsters, and while it does require switching off a certain percentage of brain wattage, there's some definite fun to be had for G-fans.

GODZILLA VS. KONG (2021) MOVIE REVIEW

23.
Possessor (2020)
d. Brandon Cronenberg (Canada) (103 min)

Rondo Award-winning columnist Jon Kitley of Kitley's Krypt and HorrorHound Magazine takes time out of his busy October schedule to trade brain waves on Brandon Cronenberg's latest, POSSESSOR, which sees Andrea Riseborough operating as a hired assassin who mentally takes control of bystanders to perform executions for her, leaving her with a perfect alibi. Complications arise when her latest assignment does not go as planned, resulting in a literal battle of wills over who runs the show... and body!

POSSESSOR (2020) MOVIE REVIEW

On to the final lap! Hope everyone has an amazing Halloween week and we'll see you with the final totals on Monday!
